Still Catching Up

So I never finished writing about our Thanksgiving. I went and took a Sunday nap after writing my last post and then another crazy week was upon me before I new it! So here is the rest of my Thanksgiving report.

The Sorensen family (my mom's family) always has their big shin-dig the day after Thanksgiving. Our family is so big that for the last several years we have combined our Thanksgiving and Christmas parties because it was so hard to get everyone together twice. So Thanksgiving is in the morning and Christmas is in the afternoon. It is an all day event of laughter and merriment! We all go up to a big scout lodge in the canyon. If there is snow we all go sledding, but this year there was no snow to be seen. If was however cold enough for the little lake next to the lodge to freeze over, we played on the frozen lake instead! By we I mostly mean my cousins because I was a bit too wary to actually play on it. It was my first time every walking on a frozen lake and I wasn't too sure what to make of the constant cracking sounds that happened as you walked! I was brave enough to stand out there long enough to get my picture taken though, and to get a shot of a fish swimming under the frozen ice. I don't know how they were still alive, but there were fish in there!












On the Saturday after Thanksgiving we celebrated my sister Molly's birthday!!! We went out to dinner to Macaroni Grill. I love that place cause they let you draw on the tables! Here is a little birthday drawing Carolyn made. She's so creative! It was tons of fun and Molly even got "Happy Birthday" sung to her in Italian by a very special waiter (our cousin Doug who works there and has an incredible voice).

After dinner our Aunt Ramona took us on an adventure. We drove up the canyon to Alta ski resort where we took a moonlit walk around a lake. It was so cool. There was a full moon that night and it was an absolutely spectacular scene. There was some snow up in the mountains so everything had a beautiful glow to it. The lake was of course frozen over and so for the second time in my life I ventured out onto the frozen ice. This time I was a bit more brave because we were at a higher altitude and the lake was much more frozen that the first one. The whole family was out there and we had a fabulous time. It was pretty funny to see all those crazy Cahoon's running all over the ice! There were only two slips on the ice, but luckily no serious injuries :) My dad's camera is able to do some pretty good night shots so we got some fun pictures. I think the ones where you can barely see the mountain behind us are pretty cool. I also like the one where the camera wasn't held quite steady so the moon looks like a huge meteorite falling towards me and Jayson's heads!

After the hike we headed back to Aunt Ramona's to enjoy a bit more Thanksgiving turkey. This wasn't just an ordinary turkey though. In honor of Molly's birthday it was a chocolate turkey and probably the most delicious turkey I have ever eaten! Molly and Carolyn had a lot of fun "carving" the turkey, especially decapitating it :)
