Happy Birthday Theodor Seuss Geisel!!!

So last Sunday, March 2nd, was Dr. Seuss' birthday. It was really fun at my school because all week long they celebrated Dr. Seuss. We even had birthday cake and green eggs and ham for lunch! I loved Dr. Seuss growing up (and still do). I thought I would share one of my Dr. Seuss favorites. It is a short poem that is included in the Sneeches book. My other favorite Dr. Seuss story (What Was I Scared Of? aka The Pale Green Pants) is also in that book, but this one was shorter and easier to share. I never got tired of my mom reading Too Many Daves to me. I can't wait to read it to my own kids and laugh hysterically every time we get to the name Oliver Boliver Butt :) - hehe, it still makes me giggle.

Too Many Daves by Dr. Seuss

Did I ever tell you that Mrs. McCave
Had twenty-three sons, and she named them all Dave?
Well, she did. And that wasn't a smart thing to do.
You see, when she wants one, and calls out "Yoo-Hoo!
Come into the house, Dave!" she doesn't get one.
All twenty-three Daves of hers come on the run!

This makes things quite difficult at the McCaves'
As you can imagine, with so many Daves.
And often she wishes that, when they were born,
She had named one of them Bodkin Van Horn.
And one of them Hoos-Foos. And one of them Snimm.
And one of them Hot-Shot. And one Sunny Jim.
And one of them Shadrack. And one of them Blinkey.
And one of them Stuffy. And one of them Stinkey.
Another one Putt-Putt. Another one Moon Face.
Another one Marvin O'Gravel Balloon Face.
And one of them Ziggy. And one Soggy Muff.
One Buffalo Bill. And one Biffalo Buff.
And one of them Sneepy. And one Weepy Weed.
And one Paris Garters. And one Harris Tweed.
And one of them Sir Michael Carmichael Zutt.
And one of them Oliver Boliver Butt.
And one of them Zanzibar Buck-Buck McFate . . . .
But she didn't do it. And now it's too late.

That is so fabulous! Thanks for sharing. I LOVE Dr. Suess. I love trying to read Dr. Suess as fast as I can to Cassidy. It makes us both laugh. Dr. Suess makes me happy, what a guy!

Oh, what fun...posting Too Many Daves on your blog. I just read it to Andrea out loud and laughed and laughed as I read it to her (at 17) in just the way I read it to all of you when you were 7. Being the baby, she probably didn't get all the reads that the rest of you got! "Pity!" as she would say. Thanks for the walk down memory lane.
