I Can See Clearly Now

Yesterday I went to get my early birthday present, LASIK eye surgery! As I sit here writing this post I am blown away by the fact that what I am seeing is through my own eyes and not through a pair of contacts. If you have never worn glasses or contacts you probably can't quite grasp what a miracle this is to me. I have not been able to see things clearly with my own eyes for over 18 years! What amazes me even more is that I was seeing things clearly only hours after the surgery. To me it really is a miracle!

I was a bit nervous about the surgery, but Jayson having done it 5 years ago was encouraging. Now that it is done I am so glad I did it and it was well worth it, but I will be honest in saying that the actually surgery part was horribly uncomfortable and was the worst 30 minutes of my life. It was the most uncomfortable and intense thing I have ever done in my life, even worse than those yearly "woman" visits to the doctor :) The worst thing about it for me was that I just wanted to close my eyes so I didn't have to watch, but that wasn't possible since they were working on my eyes! I won't go into all the details, but I will just say that I was so glad when it was over.

Once I got past the first few hours after surgery things were great. I have only a slight discomfort in my eyes and I am seeing everything perfectly! In about a week my life should be back to normal with the exception of my daily routine of putting in the contacts! I get to wear these awesome eye shields at night so that I don't scratch my eyes and I can't wear any make-up for a week. The shield they put in my eyes also popped several blood vessels so I have all these red patches in my eyes, Jayson gave me a new pirate name "Lara 'Bloody-eye' Seaver". So I am looking kind of scary at the moment with no make-up, tape marks all over my face, and blood shot eyes, but again it is worth it.
