Getting More Excited About Life! :)

So this week was pretty uneventful except for a little trip to the doctor in which I was stabbed by a needle 8 times!!! Don't worry, nothing is wrong and I am also not pregnant :) I have just been feeling a little out of sorts for the past few weeks and super tired so I thought I had better go in just to make sure it wasn't anything too serious. Anyway to check for the types of diseases dealing with fatigue they like to look at your blood. So the doctored ordered 4 of those blood tubes to be filled and sent off to the lab, that is where my troubles started. Apparently I have extremely small veins, much to the frustration of the nurses. I had 3 different nurses try, finally on the 5th attempt the blood started flowing but only long enough to fill up two of the tubes. So they made a couple more attempts. Finally after the 7th attempt they stopped poking me and just said they would make do with the blood they got. Then I had one more final prick in my finger to get a small blood sample for some in-house testing. Before this I had no idea of how many different places they could try to suck blood out of you. I ended up having both elbow joints poked (one of them twice), both top sides of my hands, my left wrist and my right forearm! Here is a picture of what one of my arms looked like. The other one looked exactly the same except for the addition of a band-aid on my ring finger.Needless to say I ended up leaving the doctor's office feeling worse than when I went in. I went back on Friday to discuss the results and the doctor said that they could find anything wrong and that my fatigue is probably just due to the huge amounts of stress I have had and I should make sure I was exercising, eating well, getting more sunshine, and getting proper amounts of sleep :) The typical sound medical advice. I liked what another fellow grad student's doctor told her when she went in for the same type of thing, "It looks like you just need to be more excited about life." So my new goal to help me feel less tired, stressed, and totally overwhelmed is to be more excited about life! :) Not that I don't like life, I love it!, but I guess I need to be planning more activities to break things up a bit so that I can have the occasional escape from the stresses of my life! Those major stresses being a never-ending thesis, my first year working in my field, and teaching the Gospel to a bunch of disinterested 11 year olds! :) So what are your ideas for making my life more exciting? Please share!

How about a random community ed class? My friend in my ward and I are going to take a community ed belly dancing class just for fun. Totally random. Apparently it's good for your stomach muscles. Here's another idea. How about starting up a group like a book club or something that you are interested in. Hey, maybe even an exercise club!

When my dr told me to be more excited about life I wanted to slug him, and i was pretty sure there had to be an easier answer than exercising too. i have started exercising though. i have found i actually like weight lifting. you can have very specific goals and meet them. I love checking off goals. i've also started listening to spanish lessons on cd while i exercise so i don't feel like I am wasting time :)

You poor thing! They poked you way too much!
Well lets see...being excited...for me, I feel good about a day when I can check off a few things that I have been wanting to accomplish. I get down if I plan too much and dont get enough done...so it is a happy medium type thing. I write things like shower, make the bed, laundry, appts I have (I think you get the point). I also need some occasional girl time. Sometimes, on the phone, through a chat online, scrapbooking, reading for book club, etc. Hope you find things that help you de-stress, you have a lot going on right now! Hang in there!

Have a kid!!! That will for sure make life more exciting! :) (although it might not help with the lack of sleep) Or you could just come visit us in Ohio and see our kids! Or both. We miss you guys.

Who is Amy in Ohio - maybe we should get our kids together! Sorry you've not been in top form. Life will get much better when your thesis is done. My advice is to celebrate the little things. Reward yourselves with dates.

Life is always much more exciting for me if I have my toe nails painted, especially if it involves a cute design on the big toe nail. Then whenever I look at my toes (which is much more frequent during flip flop season) it makes me smile. Even little things can make life more exciting:)

sorry, i don't have very many great ideas to get you more excited, but i did have to comment on the drawing blood thing. you gotta be careful when you get pregnant and go in to have your baby. i had small veins too, so when they tried to stick an IV in me for "just in case" they had to keep doing it over and over. MAKE SURE YOU GET A GOOD PERSON TO DO IT!! i ended up with bruises on both arms and my hand swelled up full of blood. i didn't get the epidural and i swear my hand was the thing that hurt the worst during all of labor!

I, too, have bad veins - I was in the hospital for my appendix years ago and I was seriously a pin cushion by the time I came out. Tyler has been cursed with my veins and they are always pricking him more than once to get his blood, IV, etc. So, I was told to as for the on call paramedic IV person. They have to get the IV in the first time in the back of an ambulance so they HAVE to be good!
